Why you're moving
The landlord is selling
Who decides Somebody else entirely
The hardest of the four, because you did not choose it, the date is not yours, and you may not have anywhere confirmed to go.
What this does to the move
This is the move where people most often end up paying for the wrong thing. The onward address is frequently not confirmed when the notice arrives, so the instinct is to wait — and waiting means booking late into a market where the good dates have gone.
The better approach is almost always to hold a date early and move it if you need to, because a provisional booking costs nothing and a last-minute one costs you options.
Where there is genuinely nowhere to go yet, the answer is storage and a two-part move rather than a rushed decision about a property you have not seen properly.
What we do about it
A provisional date held before you have an onward address, at no cost
Storage where the onward move is not settled, with the load sealed once rather than handled twice
A two-part move — into store, then out to the new address when it exists
No pressure to confirm anything before you are ready to
Watch for
Being rushed into a property you have not properly seen. A short spell in storage is almost always cheaper than a tenancy you regret.
